Teaching Algebra: Slay the Demons First The Rest Is Easy

Labor Day is approaching and you can almost hear the students at the door of your class. Another year and another sixty Algebra I students face. And even if the first few weeks would be fine, you know that the third chapter of the text are more or less taken, the children usually have problems. They are afraid to explain things over and over again, and you hate the terrible trials of classification. Can not be understood simply as getting the students do not. To helpeverything is trivial, but it is relativistic mechanics. Meditate on this situation is possible, what probably did not understand is that if you kill the demon first, the rest is ... oh well easy.

What I mean to kill the demons first? In mathematics, as in other things in life, there are demons: the annoying, nasty creatures to torment, harass, and serve to undermine any hope of success. For teachers of algebra, the demons are bad in trapsStudents who fall again and they are constantly attracted. Almost as avoid the temptation to take these students demons in their kingdom, and then inflict great damage with their algebra classes. If you like the teacher, declaw these creatures and deprive them of their power, then you can get the students in their journey toward health and get their scores soaring in the stratosphere.

Instead of running through the curriculum is concerned, you should spendfirst week of class to the stage to defuse these demons. For what is good, if you're on the right track with the outline of course, but more than half of your students are lost in the dust? In particular, I'm talking about the education of students with basic concepts like variables, coefficients and exponents. In addition, students must demon invisible, such as 1 and -1 be understood as "hidden" factors (see Algebra Ebook). You know what these numbers to create chaos in allKinds of expressions.

Spending time in the course on this basis until the children have an intuitive understanding of the meaning of these symbols and expressions. The reason why I have cataloged and named each technique in the philosophy of teaching Wiz Kid is that students have a colorful name of a method to remember. This name gives them a visual anchor with which the technique or method to their inner spirit. This classification is more than brilliant and funny Founded: itTeaching strategy wise.

Teachers, do yourself a favor, when the next Labor Day rolls around. Invest much time in the knowledge that your children have the means to do algebra. Get a book about the pitfalls of algebra and study my techniques in my series of ebooks. Enter to see the children and to master the topic. If you do this, the demons will no longer pursue it - or you.
